IBM and Illinois Expand Discovery Accelerator Institute
IBM and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign recently expanded their collaboration through the IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute, contributing to the longstanding partnership focused on research and emerging technologies.
The expanded initiative brings together IBM researchers, Illinois faculty, and students to work across areas including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and supercomputing systems. Since launching in 2021, the Institute has supported research projects, student development, and technology commercialization opportunities that connect academia with industry.

In the next phase of the partnership, researchers will focus on integrating IBM quantum computing resources with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications’ Delta and DeltaAI systems. The goal is to advance hybrid quantum-classical computing, scalable AI infrastructure, and large-scale computational research.
The collaboration also creates opportunities for students to work directly with industry professionals while contributing to real research challenges. Through hands-on research experiences, mentorship opportunities, and innovation programs, students gain exposure to advanced technologies and practical experience in the field.
